Jean-Michel Jarre will release his new album Electronica 2: The Heart of Noise next month, the second volume in his project that features an eclectic lineup of collaborators, including Pet Shop Boys, Cyndi
LauperGary Numan and more.
But his final reveal might be the most unexpected: Jarre announced Friday (April 15) that he teamed up with NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden for a track called "Exit."
Jarre was introduced to Snowden with help from The Guardian -- one of the newspapers Snowden worked with to release NSA documents -- and the pioneering French producer put "Exit" on all streaming platforms Friday.

"I wrote a speedy techno track evoking the constant and hectic production of data and the obsessive quest for more information," Jarre said in a press release. "I then linked the music with this mad hunt and chase in order to get hold of people like Edward Snowden."
For those hoping to hear Snowden belt out a note, the six-minute ambient track instead features him talking about freedom of speech and privacy rights. Snowden also explained the title in a statement, saying that we all are trying to "exit" and that it's "something where we direct ourselves."
"It’s about an action which may change everything from where we are to another direction, a departure to somewhere else," Snowden stated.
Jarre will be returning to the international stage this June on a European tour. The first volume of the Electronica project, The Time Machine, is out now, and The Heart of Noise will be out on May 6. In total, the project features 30 collaborators.
