The Lagos State Government has said the ongoing construction of the Berger pedestrian bridge will be completed and opened to residents of the state before the end of the year.
The state government, in a statement on Sunday, said the bridge was in response to the complaints of residents over the spate of accidents resulting in the loss of lives on the road.
The statement said, “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode approved the immediate construction of the bridge with the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company, moving to the site early this year. The work is nearing completion. It is expected to be open to pedestrians before the end of 2016.”
Meanwhile, the state governor has also promised to address the traffic challenge on the Third Mainland Bridge through the construction of a park along the Iyana Oworo Road.
Ambode, who visited the area to witness the traffic, reportedly decided that a segregated bus park would alleviate the problem.
A statement on Sunday said work had commenced on the park, adding that the impact was already being felt as the road had been freed.
