Over the weekend, the Ooni of Ife's wife said that women can never be equal to men. Some agreed, many didn't. This particular male LIB reader thinks Olori Wuraola owes Nigerian women an apology.
Frankly, I don't think the Olori understands the "gender equality" concept and she should have educated herself properly on what the struggle is all about before taking up the microphone. It's really a shame to read/hear her reduce it all to "what a man can do, a woman can do better"...Like seriously?
Gender equality has never been about a power tussle between
the male and female gender but about creating a balance with the
understanding that we are all "God's children" and none should be seen
as less deserving of anything.
Gender roles/responsibilities isn't the same as gender
equality. It will always take the sperm (from males) to fertilise the
eggs (from females). The tragedy here is that most people view gender
equality from the husband/wife standpoint, forgetting that not every
woman is married or will even get married. What happens then...?
Equality is about ensuring...
That the girl gets access to good education and healthcare as the boy.
That she is given as much privileges and opportunities as the boy.
That she isn't taken advantage of because she is female.
That she gets equal pay when she does the same job as the male.
That she can think freely, choose freely, vote freely and associate freely.
That she isn't marginalised when it comes to family inheritance.
That she isn't subjected to undue hardship, ridicule and disgusting practices on the death of her spouse.
That she isn't the only one expected to be a virgin till marriage and be shamed for not being one.
That she can be economically/financially independent without being labelled "whore", "emasculator"(permit me) or "disloyal"...
To list a few...

Some people should know better...and the Olori is one of them(With all due respect).
