Residents of Apo Resettlement in Zone B area of Abuja has frown at the
high electricity charges introduced by the Abuja Electricity
Distribution Company (AEDC).
According to the residents, Apo
AEDC branch office has continued with operation cut off light in all
the streets of the Zone B area but introduced illegal charges.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, the leader of the forum, Hon. Kingsley Madaki,
who led a massive protest to register their grievances over the recent
increase described the operation cut off light in the Resettlement area
as the highest act of injustice to humanity.
He said the operation cut off light which is led Mrs Chichi
of Apo Distribution Branch was a bad idea. He said by disconnecting the
Zone B area due to their inability to meet up with what he described as
high billing was an act of discrimination to the people of the area
that are entitle to basic social amenities.
Madaki
said the forum has resolved to continue to speak up against any form of
fraud against electricity consumers within the area and would mobilize
more people especially those affected by the charges to resist it.
"We
will continue with the fight against illegal billing of electricity
consumers, mostly in the face of hardship being faced presently by
Nigerians.”
“We as a forum hereby call on
AEDC to immediately reconnect our area and also investigate persons
behind this high billing because we heard it on a very reliable source
that this woman Chichi only carries out the act of disconnecting houses
in other to be bribed to reconnect it. This government led by President
Buhari does not support corrupt practices in any form.”
“How
can a compound pay N24000 last month and suddenly be presented with
N180, 000 this month and we do not know our fate in the billing next
month. Let them reconsider the illegal electricity bills and hidden
charges apparent on their bills to consumers" Madaki said.
