Luis Suarez lost his temper on the substitutes’ bench as Uruguay crashed out of the Copa America following a 1-0 defeat to Venezuela.
Salomon Rondon scored the only goal of the game which has left Uruguay without a point in Group C, and with only one match against Jamaica remaining, the 15-time winners of the competition have no hope of reaching the quarter-finals.
Suarez missed the 3-1 defeat to Mexico due to a hamstring injury and although he was on the bench for the loss to Venezuela, the Barcelona striker was not used.
Suarez did warm-up in the second half but after Uruguay’s third and final substitution, the former Liverpool forward confronted coach Oscar Tabarez before punching the side of the dugout.
“There is no situation. The situation is what I told you [on Wednesday]. The player is not ready to play,” said Tabarez.
“This is an issue about numbers and doctors. Even if the player is upset, I’m not going to play a player who is not 100 per cent. If he got upset, that is something I was not aware of. He didn’t tell me anything.”
