We'll keep our fingers crossed that these two go their separate ways.
If you've seen "Star Trek: Beyond" yet (and you absolutely should if you haven't), then you know that Sofia Boutella stole her every scene with her performance as Jaylah. For many people, it's the first place that they've seen her, but pretty much everybody coming out of the theater wanted to see more of her.
And of course they're getting their wishes, because she's starring as the titular character in "The Mummy," which has us so excited. She's gorgeous and talented and we want good things for her.
So mentions of how much time she's been spending with costar Tom Cruise send us into panic mode, because his relationships never seem to end well. And she's certainly talking about him with a certain enthusiasm.
As for our concerns, there's the creepy Scientology aspect, sure, but there's also just the fact that he seems like a guy who's dedicated to acting in ways that most people can't quite imagine. That's why he's so good at it.
Fortunately, we think that the time that they've spent together has been purely professional. When she gushes about him, it's really about his work ethic and experience:
That's thankfully a far cry from sounding like they're about to go on a date. She's unwilling to share if they lock lips on screen, but we're hoping that even their characters keep things platonic. Or antagonistic or whatever -- we don't know much about the movie yet, okay?
We're excited about it, though.
