Reports continue to circulate that Juventus’ highly-rated midfielder Paul Pogba is set to sign for Manchester United.
These reports suggest that Manchester United would be paying a world record 110 million euros for the French man to return to the club that he left for free in 2012.
If United do sign Pogba for that fee, he’d be join an elite list of players who have broken the transfer fee record. See the 5 most recent record holders below!
1.  Gareth Bale (2013 to present): After showing his ability to carry a team at Tottenham Hotspurs, Gareth Bale had earned himself a reputation as a world class talent. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy showed his shrewd business nous again as he was able to secure a nine digit fee for the speedy winger, with Real Madrid coughing up 100.8 million euros.

2.  Cristiano Ronaldo (2009 – 2013): One of the greatest football players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo became a world superstar at Manchester United, where he became the first English Premier League player to win the Ballon D’Or award. After achieving everything he could at United, he revealed his intentions to play for Real Madrid, with the club paying 94 million euros for his signature.

3.  Kaka (2009): Kaka’s reign at the top of the record fee table didn’t last too long, as it was broken days later by Cristiano Ronaldo. It doesn’t take anything away from the 2007 FIFA Ballon D’Or winner, who Real Madrid (again) paid 56 million pounds to AC Milan for.

4. Zinedine Zidane (2001 – 2009): The transfer fee paid by Real Madrid to Juventus for Zinedine Zidane lasted for 8 years, the longest any player has ever held record. This is only fair as he’s one of the greatest players ever to touch a football. Real Madrid paid 46 million pounds to have the technically gifted Frenchman join their band of Galaticos.

5. Luis Figo: (2000 – 2001): One of the more controversial and shocking transfers in history, Real Madrid met the 37 million pound transfer clause in Luis Figo’s contract, and Barcelona had no choice but to let him go. Figo had been met with a bunch of his insults on his first return to Camp Nou, but didn’t stop him from winning the Ballon D’Or in 2000 for his Barca achievements.
