Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 9 points: Poll
US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has taken a 9-percentage point lead over her Republican rival, Donald Trump, in the run-up to the 2016 US presidential race, according to a new Morning Consult poll.
The survey, released on Sunday evening, shows the former secretary of state has 46 percent of the votes as compared to the New York billionaire having only a 37-percent support.
Meanwhile, the poll also found that about 60 percent of voters have an unfavorable view of Trump. Only 36 percent have a favorable view of him.
Regarding Clinton, 55 percent disprove her, and only 42 percent have a favorable view of the Democratic nominee.
According to the survey, voters in military families, however, give preference to Trump over Clinton, 48 percent to 36 percent.
Clinton received 41 percent to Trump’s 33 percent in a four-candidate match-up. In that scenario, Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson earned 9 percent, while Green Party candidate Jill Stein bagged 5 percent.
The poll was conducted on August 4-5 among a national sample of 2,001 registered voters. The margin of error is 2 points.
Meanwhile, according to the Washington Post-ABC News poll released on Sunday, shows Clinton leading Trump 50 percent to 42 percent among registered voters.
The survey, carried out August 1-4, shows a twofold increase from what the Democrats held on the eve of the Republican convention in mid-July.
Clinton also leads Trump 51 percent to 44 percent among likely voters who have not registered to vote yet, according to the poll.
A Gallup survey last month showed that 27 percent did not trust Clinton, 13 percent did not like her and eight percent considered her as a “criminal” or a “corrupt” person.
About Trump, sixteen percent disliked him, 12 percent described him as an "idiot" or a "joke" and 10 percent as a "racist" or a "bigot," the poll showed.
