Buhari commissions warships in Lagos as armed force advances 227 officers

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Lagos said the Federal Government would proceed to bolster and prepare the military, while encouraging resourcefulness in supplementing his organization's endeavors to build and ad lib some fundamental operational instruments. 

At the dispatching of three warships, Unity, Karaduwa and Commander Edwin Ugwu, the president recognized the Navy for building two of them. 

He said: ''It is most satisfying to note that our own specialists at the Nigerian Navy Dockyard, Lagos and the Naval Shipyard, Port Harcourt are completely in charge of the working of the Seaward Defense Boat, Nigerian Navy Ship Karaduwa and the tugboat Commander Edwin Ugwu. 

"It is additionally important that NNS Unity, which is Nigeria's most up to date warship, is the second of such acquisitions from the Peoples' Republic of China." 

He lauded the Navy's steps in the zone of proceeded with battle against oceanic security dangers like robbery, oil burglary, illicit bunkering, pipeline vandalism and support for the battle against fear based oppression in the North East. 

The President said the sound and developing conciliatory relations with China had been most helpful to Nigeria, reviewing that the Chinese government had before given a seaward watch watercraft to the naval force a year ago. 

In another improvement, the Chief of Army Staff has said troops have made definitive progression into the Sambisa timberland.

Out of the 227 advanced officers, 21 ascended from Brigadier-General to Major-General, and 93 from Colonels to Brigadier Generals, among whom was the Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman. 

Others are 113 Lieutenant-Colonels likewise moved to Colonel.
