Senate Majority Leader, Ali Ndume, has disproved claims that the Senate a week ago rejected the affirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Handling inquiries at the Presidential Villa yesterday, Senator Ndume told State House journalists soon after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari that security report from the Directorate of State Security (DSS) which verged on charges of defilement kept the Senate from proceeding with the affirmation
The official demanded that the Senate did not dismiss Magu, including that "when we slated his affirmation for that Thursday, we couldn't proceed in light of the fact that we have a letter from the DSS that we couldn't overlook and which couldn't permit us to proceed with the affirmation."
He clarified that until there are illuminations on the report of the DSS, it would be troublesome for the Senate to proceed with the affirmation.
In any case, Ndume declined to unveil when it would rethink Magu's confirmation. His words, "We particularly requested that the executive media issue an announcement. What we said on that Thursday was that the Senate couldn't proceed with the affirmation of Magu and that we are in control of a letter from the Department of State Service, which requires illumination from Mr. President, who is the leader of the legislature. That was what happened."
At the point when reminded that it was the Senate Spokesperson, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdulahi who said the Senate rejected Magu, Ndume reacted accordingly, "I'm part of the people that composed the short press articulation which expressed that the Senate can't proceed with the affirmation. It is not quite the same as saying that the Senate has rejected. Actually we have alluded the other four to the advisory group."
On the charged require the sack of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), David Babachir, Ndume said it was not a request from the Senate.
As indicated by him, "the Senate determination is a proposal, it's not a law. What the Senate considered is work in advance since it was a between time report. It is a similar open that is intrigued and stressed to recognize what we have done as a Senate about those affirmations.
"The panel issued a between time report and the break report appeared to prosecute the SGF. The result of that arraignment is the thing that they prescribed yet we are not there yet in light of the fact that the report itself is break. ""
