Staffs of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti (FETHI), Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital(EKSUTH) and other general hospitals, were in mourning mood yesterday, following the death of
six doctors in a ghastly motor accident along Kaduna road on Sunday.
The deceased, including Dr Tunde Aladesanmi of FETHI; Dr Ojo Taiwo, EKSUTH; NMA secretary, Dr Akinyele Alex; Dr J. Ogunseye of the Health Management Board ; president, EKSUTH Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) , Dr Olajide, Dr Adeniyi James of the FETHI and a driver identified as Mr. Ajibola, led by the chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Ekiti State chapter, Dr John Akinbote, who survived in the accident, died while on their way to Sokoto State to attend the NMA’s Annual General Meeting.
The sad development, according to a source, however sparked protest at FETHI, as the staff who alleged that the doctors’ death was diabolical and beyond human imagination took to the streets as early as 7am and locked the main gate of the hospital during the unrest, which caused serious panic to the patients and intending visitors.
When newsmen visited EKSUTH in Ado Ekiti, most of the staff of the institution were seen in groups discussing the situation, while few others were rendering medical services to patients on admission.
The FETHI’s Chief Medical Director , Dr Lawrence Ayodele described the death as a national disaster.
saying ‘’It is not about the state, but the whole country because it involves six senior doctors and a driver .
