Wife of Kaduna State deputy governor, Mrs Ladi Bala Bantex, has  said that many youths in the southern part of the state are trapped in poverty.
Mrs. Bantex stated this in Kafanchan during the maiden orientation workshop for self –help empowerment
programme for about 1000 unemployed youths organised by Southern Kaduna Development Forum (SOKADEF).
The 1000 youths are undergoing training by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
Represented by the wife of Kaura  LGA chairman, Mrs Jerusha Alexander, she said there are about 1.8 billion  young people in the world representing a staggering amount of human potential.
“Yet too many of them are trapped in poverty, with few opportunities to learn or to earn a decent living. The world now has the largest generation of young people in history. I place great hope in their power to shape our future, the growth that can occur when a population shifts from one with many dependants and comparatively few working
–age people to one of many working –age people with fewer dependants will help produce unprecedented economic growth in several homes and villages of southern Kaduna,” Ladi Bantex said.
Speaking earlier, SOKADEF national coordinator, Dr. Rikichi Kajang said the organisation is targeting about one million youths for the empowerment programme in the next one year. He said the organisation carried out research in different areas in the southern part of Kaduna State and realised that many youths in the area lacked the necessary skills for employment.
“SOKADEF has a dream that the time has come for us as a people in Southern Kaduna to chart the way forward for a better and more prosperous community.
