Fulani Herdsmen: Gunmen Killed 16 Persons in Kodomun Village of Adamawa, 12 Persons in Godogo Village of Kaduna
Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have invaded some communities in Adamawa and Kaduna States, killing over 28 persons.
According to information available, about 16 people were slaughter in Kodomun Village of Adamawa while about 12 people, including women and children were killed by the gunmen at Godogo Village, Kaduna State.
Speaking to our correspondent, a member Adamawa House of Assembly Mr. Lumsan Dilli, said that the figure was higher than 16 disclosed by the residents.
He added that himself and the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Martins Babale had visited the affected villages and observed that more dead bodies were not accounted for.
He said, “As we travel down to inspect the ravaged villages, what we observed was that there were dead bodies that littered the ground. Many residents had been displaced. Many are missing now.”
The lawmakers said that the casualty figure was outrageous, adding that the herdsmen maim and kill people as they invade their villages.
Urging the Federal Government to quickly intervene, the lawmaker said that the villagers might recoup for a reprisal if nothing is done urgently.
According to him, about 40, 000 people have been rendered homeless while any have been maimed and might not be able to do their normal business again.
In Kaduna, the gunmen attacked the Godogo Village early Tuesday morning and opened fire on the residents. Source told Elevatenews that 12 persons were killed before the police intervention.
A resident who escaped the killing said that the herdsmen claimed to be the owner of the land that it has been reserved for cattle grazing.
“They said it is part of Sanga Grazing Reserves. We have not known peace.”
But, Kaduna State Police Command Spokesman, ASP Aliyu Usman, said he was yet to get details of the attack, but assured that everything had been brought under control.
